June 2011 has been cold and wet so far with a few good sunny days to warm up the lakes.
Trout fishing on Beauty has been excellent, with the fish fairly deep. Smallmouth Bass have just started to get on beds with the males up in the shallower sandy flats and the bigger females out in deeper water. Walleye are hanging out in the shallower mud bays where the “May Flies” are just starting to hatch in 4 to 6 feet of water. They have been suspended if water is deeper. Minnows and leeches have been working very well but minnows especially for the walleyes. Lures working for the walleyes are silver/blue crank baits no longer than 3″ or 4″, to match the hatch size. Twister tails and jigs are working well also.
